In a concerted effort to position Assam as a pivotal hub in Southeast Asia, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma embarked on a strategic visit to Singapore. This mission aimed to bolster collaborations in technology, infrastructure, and investment, aligning with the state’s vision for accelerated growth.
Reflecting on his engagement with Singapore’s leadership, CM Sarma remarked, “It was a great honour to meet the President of Singapore, H.E. Tharman Shanmugaratnam. Our discussions covered ongoing collaborative projects, with a special emphasis on Assam’s role as a key pillar in the India-Singapore Comprehensive Partnership.”
President Tharman Shanmugaratnam acknowledged the fruitful dialogue, stating, “We exchanged views on ways to strengthen ties between Singapore and Assam, including in skills development and healthcare.”
Throughout his visit, CM Sarma engaged with key stakeholders across various sectors to advance Assam’s developmental agenda.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
In his meeting with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, CM Sarma discussed Assam’s strategic importance in the Indo-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Their dialogue focused on collaborative projects that could drive mutual growth, particularly in areas such as skills development and healthcare. Advancing Technological Collaboration
Recognizing the potential of the semiconductor industry, CM Sarma engaged with leaders from prominent companies, including ASMPT, AEM, Besi, and Temasek. He extended an invitation to these industry giants to explore opportunities in Assam’s upcoming Electronic City in Jagiroad. This initiative aims to position the state as a burgeoning hub for electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, aligning with India’s broader vision for technological self-reliance.
Urban Development Initiatives
Collaborating with Surbana Jurong, a renowned Singapore-based infrastructure firm, CM Sarma aimed to leverage their urban planning expertise to modernize Assam’s cities and industrial parks. Discussions with CEO Low Cher Ek centered on developing futuristic cities and industrial townships, enhancing the ease of living for residents, and supporting sustainable urban growth in Assam.
Promoting ‘Advantage Assam 2.0’
At a roadshow in Singapore, CM Sarma addressed over 200 business leaders, highlighting Assam’s strategic location, investor-friendly policies, and robust infrastructure. He personally invited these leaders to the ‘Advantage Assam 2.0’ summit, scheduled for February 25-26 in Guwahati. This event aims to showcase Assam as a key investment destination in Northeast India, fostering international partnerships and accelerating economic growth.

During his visit, CM Sarma was honored with the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship, acknowledging his leadership and contributions to public service. This accolade not only elevates his international standing but also positions Assam as a progressive state under his guidance, enhancing its global profile and attractiveness to investors.

CM Sarma also connected with members of the Indian diaspora and business leaders over dinner, fostering cultural and economic ties.
