Singapore, 14 February 2025 – IN Diplomacy Editor-in-Chief, Ms. Nomita Dhar, recently welcomed H.E. Christodoulos Margaritis, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic (Greece) to Singapore. The discussion provided an excellent opportunity to introduce IN Diplomacy’s platform and explore avenues for collaboration, while also reflecting on the latest developments in Greece-Singapore relations.
Greece and Singapore maintain longstanding diplomatic and economic ties, with the Embassy of Greece in Singapore playing a key role in fostering bilateral cooperation. Trade and investment form a significant part of their relationship, particularly in maritime services, logistics, energy, and finance. Greece’s well-established shipping industry and Singapore’s position as a global trade hub provide opportunities for collaboration, particularly in regulatory frameworks and technological innovation. Additionally, academic institutions collaborate on research, student exchanges, and specialized fields such as maritime studies.
On a broader scale, Greece and Singapore work together in multilateral organisations, including the United Nations and the EU-ASEAN framework, addressing global challenges such as climate change and maritime security which continuously strengthen the diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties of both nations.
Singapore is home to a Greek community of approximately 500 permanent residents, many of whom are involved in the shipping sector, while others contribute to trade and business by exporting Greek goods and services to Singapore. Several Greek shipping companies maintain a presence in the country, further strengthening economic connections. This community actively participates in cultural and social initiatives, contributing to Singapore’s diverse cultural landscape.
H.E. Christodoulos Margaritis expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to engage with IN Diplomacy and emphasised Greece’s commitment to strengthening relations with Singapore across multiple sectors.
