India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Advantage Assam 2.0: Investment & Infrastructure Summit, held in Guwahati, on 25-26 February, 2025, where he emphasised the state’s economic growth and its role in India’s future. The event, attended by Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, industry leaders, and dignitaries, showcased Assam’s development and investment opportunities.

During his speech, Prime Minister Modi recalled his 2013 visit to Assam, expressing confidence in the state’s growing prominence. “The day is not far when people, while learning the alphabet, will say: A for Assam,” he stated. He attributed this growth to the double-engine governance model, which has prioritised infrastructure development, education, and investment-friendly policies.

The Prime Minister outlined key advancements in Assam’s connectivity, including an increase in railway budget allocations, modernisation of over 60 railway stations, and improved air travel routes. He also mentioned the state’s role in India’s semiconductor industry, citing the Tata Semiconductor Assembly & Test Facility in Jagiroad as a significant milestone.

Emphasising Assam’s strategic importance in India’s global economic positioning, he introduced the North East Transformative Industrialisation Scheme, known as “Unnati,” to boost industry and tourism. Additionally, he called on investors to capitalise on Assam’s resources, highlighting Assam Tea as an internationally recognised brand.

Prime Minister Modi concluded by reaffirming his commitment to Assam’s growth, stating that the region would play a crucial role in achieving India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047. He assured continued government support for Assam’s industrial and economic transformation.
