PH Embassy in Singapore hosts pioneering digital election for Filipino expatriates.
SINGAPORE – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore has successfully concluded the nation’s inaugural overseas internet voting for national elections, marking a significant milestone in the country’s electoral history.
From 13 April to 12 May 2025, Filipino citizens residing in Singapore participated in the month-long online voting process. Out of 67,877 registered overseas voters in the city-state, 21,976 cast their ballots electronically, resulting in a voter turnout of 32.38%.
This initiative represents the first implementation of internet voting for overseas Filipinos, aiming to enhance accessibility and participation in the democratic process. The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) spearheaded this digital transition, with the Philippine Embassy in Singapore facilitating the local execution.
Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig, who chaired the Special Board of Canvassers, expressed his gratitude to the Filipino community for embracing this new voting method. He also commended the embassy staff and associated agencies for their dedication throughout the 30-day voting period, which included weekends and public holidays.
The official results of the overseas voting in Singapore are accessible to the public via the COMELEC website here.
Additionally, a copy of the Certificate of Canvass has been posted at the Embassy’s Consular Section for public viewing, in accordance with COMELEC Resolution No. 10181.
