SINGAPORE, 16 June 2025 — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, held his first annual Leaders’ Retreat with Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong, on Monday at Parliament House, Singapore. The meeting was part of President Prabowo’s inaugural state visit to the country since his inauguration in October last year.

Prior to the retreat, the two leaders held a tête-à-tête session to discuss key strategic issues in a private setting. In his welcome remarks, Prime Minister Wong expressed his appreciation for President Prabowo’s visit and described the Leaders’ Retreat as a significant milestone in the evolving relationship between both nations. He noted that while they had met on previous occasions, this state visit was particularly meaningful as it coincided with their first retreat in their respective official capacities.

“This year’s Leaders’ Retreat is the first for both of us in our current roles. I look forward to working closely with you, Mr President, and with your delegation, ministers, and officials, to chart a new path forward in this new era of bilateral relations,” said PM Wong.
President Prabowo, in turn, conveyed his gratitude for the warm welcome extended by the Singaporean government and congratulated PM Wong on his reappointment. He recalled his long-standing personal connection with Singapore, having spent part of his childhood in the country, and highlighted the strong historical and interpersonal ties between leaders of both nations.

“As you may know, I spent part of my childhood in Singapore. We have a long-standing relationship with Singapore. I believe most Indonesian leaders share close ties with their Singaporean counterparts,” remarked President Prabowo.
