The festival spotlights First Nations talent and cross-cultural storytelling in a tribute to six decades of diplomatic ties.
The Australian Film Festival 2025 has officially opened, marking 60 years of diplomatic friendship between Australia and Singapore with a showcase of cinematic excellence and cultural connection. Co-organised by the Singapore Film Society and Australian High Commission Society, the festival highlights the deep and enduring relationship between the two nations, particularly through creative collaboration.
This year’s festival features a curated selection of both Australian and Singaporean films, celebrating shared values and vibrant artistic exchange. As part of the celebration of NAIDOC Week, the festival shines a spotlight on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander filmmakers—directors, producers, screenwriters, and actors—whose diverse stories span genres from documentary and comedy to musical and mystery, offering unique insights into First Nations histories and cultures.
A special highlight of the programme is the participation of renowned Singaporean filmmaker Eric Khoo, serving as the festival’s ambassador. Khoo, who studied cinematography at the City Art Institute in Sydney.
