Spectacular Saudi Formula E double-header becomes most-watched event in championship history
JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia — Saudi Arabia’s vision of becoming a motorsport powerhouse gained new momentum as the 2025 Jeddah E-Prix recorded an all-time high in global viewership, with 65 million people tuning in to the February races, according to figures released by Kantar Media and Emplifi.
The double-header event, held on 14 and 15 February at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, marked a dramatic shift in Formula E’s regional presence. Following six successful seasons in Diriyah, the fully electric championship made its debut along the Red Sea, drawing attention with its striking nighttime format and the world’s fastest street circuit.
The unique coastal atmosphere and under-the-lights racing created a thrilling spectacle, cementing Jeddah’s position as a premier motorsport destination. The event’s success reflects Saudi Arabia’s broader ambition to diversify its economy through international sports and tourism initiatives under Vision 2030.
In recognition of its record-breaking reception, Formula E has confirmed a return to Jeddah in 2026, maintaining its status as the only nighttime race of the season. The 2026 edition will again be held over two days—13 and 14 February—further strengthening the Kingdom’s growing presence in the global racing calendar.
Jeff Dodds, Chief Executive of Formula E, underscored the importance of the milestone. “The latest figures from our external providers show the tremendous momentum behind the growth of our sport,” he said. “We’re not only delivering cutting-edge technology and competitive racing, but also building loyal fanbases in both established and emerging markets.”
The Jeddah E-Prix aligns with Saudi Arabia’s strategic push to host world-class events that attract international attention and investment. Beyond entertainment, these events signal the Kingdom’s evolving role as a centre of innovation and sustainable development, especially within the sports and mobility sectors.
