The three-day visit focuses on enhancing bilateral ties, regional cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges between Algeria and Singapore.

SINGAPORE – His Excellency Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, is making an official visit to Singapore from 6 to 8 July 2025 at the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan. This marks Minister Attaf’s first official visit to Singapore.

Minister Attaf met with Dr Vivian Balakrishnan and was hosted to an official lunch. During their meeting, both Ministers reaffirmed the warm and longstanding relations between Algeria and Singapore and discussed ways to enhance cooperation in areas such as economic collaboration and education. They also exchanged views on regional developments. Dr Balakrishnan welcomed Algeria’s interest to engage ASEAN and looked forward to Algeria’s signing of the Instrument of Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia at the upcoming 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Kuala Lumpur on 9 July. 

Following the bilateral discussions, both Ministers signed an Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption for Diplomatic, Service and Official Passports. The agreement is expected to facilitate official exchanges and strengthen government and people-to-people links between the two countries.As part of his visit, Minister Attaf also called on Speaker of Parliament Seah Kian Peng, where they explored avenues to enhance inter-parliamentary cooperation. Additionally, he was briefed by the Centre for Liveable Cities on Singapore’s experience in urban city management and sustainable development which may be of interest to Algeria.
