
Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu underscores joint climate action and healthcare initiatives during the 17th BRICS Summit.
BRAZIL – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu participated in the 17th BRICS Summit, where he addressed the session titled “Environment, COP30, Global Health.” The session gathered leaders and ministers to discuss global efforts in environmental protection, preparations for the United Nations Framework COP30, and strengthening international health systems.
In his remarks, Minister Nurtleu stressed the urgency of safeguarding ecosystems, protecting forests, restoring the Aral Sea, and tackling glacier melt. He highlighted the need to shift from responding to climate threats to proactively preventing them, calling for enhanced early warning systems, better disaster preparedness, and closer multilateral coordination. He also presented Kazakhstan’s plan to use national satellite technologies to monitor climate risks and support disaster forecasting.
On global health, Minister Nurtleu encouraged countries to join the Global Coalition for the Development of Primary Health Care, tracing its legacy back to the 1978 Almaty Declaration. He reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s readiness to contribute further to BRICS efforts, announcing that Kazakhstan will host a Regional Ecological Summit in 2026 in partnership with the United Nations, to advance regional climate solutions.
The Minister thanked Brazil for its warm hospitality and the constructive spirit of the Summit, which strengthened dialogue and collaboration among Global South nations. On the sidelines, Minister Nurtleu also met with Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, to discuss ways to boost bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
