Over 600 troops from both nations took part in the annual bilateral exercise, strengthening tactical capabilities and defence ties between Singapore and Malaysia.

SINGAPORE — The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) have concluded the 29th edition of Exercise Semangat Bersatu (XSB), which took place in Singapore from 10 to 16 July 2025.

The closing ceremony was co-officiated at the Murai Urban Training Facility by SAF Chief of Army (COA) Major General (MG) Cai Dexian and MAF Chief of Army (COA) General (GEN) Tan Sri Dato’ Muhammad Hafizuddeain bin Jantan.

This year’s exercise saw more than 600 soldiers from the SAF’s 2nd Singapore Infantry Brigade (2 SIB) and 3rd Battalion, Singapore Infantry Regiment (3 SIR), and the MAF’s 5th Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment (5 RMR) engaging in joint training activities. The exercise offered professional exchanges, cross-training, and opportunities for army-to-army interaction, culminating in a combined battalion mission planned and executed jointly by both forces.

MG Cai praised the troops for their dedication and highlighted that Exercise Semangat Bersatu continues to play a crucial role in enhancing cooperation, building tactical proficiency, and fostering strong bonds.

Since its launch in 1989, XSB has underscored the enduring defence partnership between Singapore and Malaysia. Beyond XSB, the SAF and MAF maintain regular interactions through bilateral exchanges, joint courses, and regional multilateral platforms such as the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and the Five Power Defence Arrangements.
