Maharashtra and Singapore have cemented a series of landmark partnerships that promise to reshape the state’s maritime and industrial landscape. Held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) in Uran on 12 August 2025, the high-level engagements were attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, and Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow.

The centrepiece of the day’s events was the signing and exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Maharashtra and Singapore’s Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd. Valued at ₹3000 crore, this strategic investment will lead to the creation of 5000 direct jobs across key industrial centres, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and beyond. The partnership will drive the development of logistics and warehousing parks, industrial parks, and advanced data centres, strengthening Maharashtra’s position as an emerging hub for digital and physical infrastructure.

In tandem, the ‘Leaders’ Dialogue on Green and Digital Maritime Corridors’ underscored India’s, and Maharashtra’s, ambition to emerge as a marine superpower. Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Fadnavis highlighted the state’s commitment to building a future-ready maritime ecosystem through clean energy, digital innovation, and port infrastructure. He lauded Singapore as India’s trusted partner, reinforcing that this collaboration will extend far beyond the JNPA into expansion ports and marine trade initiatives across the coast.

The dialogue also offered a glimpse into Maharashtra’s ‘Maritkal Vision’, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Maritime India Vision 2047. With phased goals for 2029, 2035, and 2047, the vision aims to position Maharashtra at the forefront of global marine trade. A major step in this direction is the upcoming Vadwan port, which, as announced by CM Fadnavis, will become not only India’s largest but also one of the world’s top ten ports.

The visit also included a review of the state-of-the-art PSA terminal at JNPA, which will soon be jointly inaugurated by the Prime Ministers of India and Singapore. Once operational, the terminal is expected to handle nearly 50% of JNPA’s container traffc, an upragade that will significantly boost India’s maritime trade capacity.

Together, these events and agreements mark a defining moment in India–Singapore ties, especially in the context of Maharashtra’s rapid industrial transformation. As both nations continue to prioritise innovation, sustainability, and connectivity, their shared vision is fast becoming reality, one green corridor and data hub at a time.
