Saudi transport delegation meets UK counterparts in London to implement rail sector cooperation agreement.

A high-level delegation from Saudi Arabia’s transport sector, led by the Transport General Authority (TGA), has visited the UK Department for Transport to activate a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on rail transport cooperation between the two countries.

The Saudi delegation, comprising representatives from the TGA’s Deputyship for Railway Transport, the National Transport Safety Center (NTSC), and Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), was in the United Kingdom from 12 to 14 August as part of an official exchange programme. The visit focused on implementing the provisions of the MoU, sharing expertise on regulatory frameworks, sustainability, safety, and modern rail technologies, and exploring opportunities for collaboration on future projects.

Discussions also covered ways to improve integration across transport modes, along with initiatives for capacity-building, training, and technical exchanges. The programme included bilateral meetings with senior UK transport officials, field visits to transport infrastructure and projects, and a trip to the University of Birmingham. Technical briefings were exchanged to outline strategic priorities and innovative approaches in the rail sector.

The delegation also engaged with private-sector stakeholders to highlight investment opportunities in Saudi Arabia, reflecting the Kingdom’s efforts to attract global partners for its expanding transport network. The cooperation aims to leverage UK expertise to support Saudi Arabia’s vision of developing modern, efficient, and sustainable rail systems that contribute to national development.

This latest engagement reinforces Saudi Arabia’s commitment to advancing rail infrastructure through international collaboration, aligning with broader goals to modernise its transport sector and adopt best practices from global industry leaders.
