SINGAPORE – The Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr Kao Kim Hourn, will participate in the ASEAN Strategic Policy Dialogue on Disaster Management (SPDDM) in Singapore on 20 August 2025.

Dr Kao is scheduled to give remarks at the Opening Session and deliver the keynote address at the event, which has become a flagship platform for dialogue on disaster management and regional resilience.

First launched in 2015, the SPDDM is hosted annually by Singapore and co-organised by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), the ASEAN Secretariat, and the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre). The dialogue brings together policymakers, practitioners, and international partners to exchange insights and strengthen regional cooperation on disaster preparedness and response.

In addition to his addresses, Dr Kao is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with representatives of international organisations at the sidelines of the SPDDM, reinforcing ASEAN’s commitment to building collaborative networks in disaster risk reduction and humanitarian assistance.

The 2025 dialogue will continue to highlight the importance of regional solidarity and partnerships in addressing shared challenges in disaster management, an area where ASEAN has played a leading role for the past decade.
