
Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan met his Thai counterpart H.E. Mr Sihasak Phuangketkeow during the latter’s official visit to Singapore to strengthen cooperation and discuss regional developments.
SINGAPORE, 21 October 2025 – Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan met with H.E. Mr Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, during his official visit to Singapore. The meeting reflected the long-standing and close friendship between Singapore and Thailand, grounded in mutual trust, shared interests, and cooperation across multiple sectors.
Both Ministers reaffirmed the importance of enhancing bilateral collaboration and explored new areas of partnership. They discussed strengthening cooperation in food security, rice trade, and agricultural exports, as well as encouraging Singaporean investments in Thailand’s target industries such as data centres and semiconductors. The discussions also covered emerging areas including the digital and green economies, and initiatives to bolster public health collaboration.
Dr Balakrishnan and Mr Sihasak also exchanged views on key regional and international issues. These included strengthening ASEAN’s central role, addressing the impacts of U.S. tariff measures, and developments in Myanmar and along the Thailand–Cambodia border. Both Ministers reaffirmed their shared commitment to regional peace and stability, and to resolving differences through dialogue and peaceful means.

Dr Balakrishnan highlighted Singapore’s continued support for Thailand’s efforts to advance sustainable growth and innovation. He noted that Singapore and Thailand’s partnership serves as an anchor for economic and strategic cooperation within the ASEAN framework, particularly in enhancing regional resilience and connectivity.
The meeting underscored both countries’ commitment to advancing their longstanding partnership and working closely to strengthen ASEAN unity. The discussions reflected the shared vision of Singapore and Thailand in promoting stability, prosperity, and inclusive development in the region.
