Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan met with Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato’ Seri Utama Mohamad Hasan in Kuala Lumpur ahead of the 12th Singapore–Malaysia Leaders’ Retreat, which will be hosted in Singapore next month. The meeting reaffirmed the close and enduring ties between the two neighbours, underpinned by shared history, mutual trust, and strong cooperation.
Both ministers had a substantive and forward-looking discussion that followed up on the recent meeting between Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the ASEAN Summit. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges, while managing outstanding issues constructively.
Dr Balakrishnan and Minister Mohamad Hasan reaffirmed their shared commitment to maintaining a positive trajectory in Singapore–Malaysia relations. They agreed that continued dialogue and close coordination are key to ensuring stability and sustained growth, benefiting both nations and their peoples.

The meeting also reflected the spirit of partnership that has long characterised Singapore–Malaysia relations — one grounded in pragmatism, mutual respect, and a shared vision for regional peace and prosperity. Both sides expressed confidence that the upcoming Leaders’ Retreat will further advance collaboration and deliver tangible outcomes that enhance economic resilience and connectivity.
Singapore and Malaysia remain vital partners in ASEAN, and this engagement marks another step towards deepening trust and creating new opportunities in an increasingly interconnected region.
