
The Indian Minister of External Affairs, Dr S. Jaishankar, inaugurated the IIT Madras Global Research Foundation, marking a significant step in strengthening the Institute’s global outreach and partnerships
Dr S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India, inaugurated the IIT Madras Global Research Foundation today in Chennai, an initiative aimed at enhancing the Institute’s international collaborations across academia, industry, and government. The foundation seeks to position IIT Madras as a global hub for research excellence and innovation.

During the event, Dr Jaishankar witnessed the signing of multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) between IIT Madras and leading partners from various countries. These agreements cover collaborative research, student and faculty exchange programmes, and joint projects that bridge technological and scientific advancements across borders.
The inauguration coincided with the IIT Madras Festival Fortnight, including the highly anticipated Shaastra and Saarang events. Dr Jaishankar took part in the celebrations, engaging with students and exploring exhibits that highlight the Institute’s achievements in engineering, technology, and research.

Reflecting on his interactions, Dr Jaishankar expressed delight in meeting the Institute’s youthful talent. He noted the students’ curiosity and keen interest in global affairs, emphasising the importance of nurturing young minds who can contribute to India’s position on the world stage.
The establishment of the Global Research Foundation underscores IIT Madras’ commitment to fostering international cooperation, supporting cutting-edge research, and cultivating partnerships that drive innovation and global knowledge exchange.
