Collaboration combines financial governance and digital technology to revitalise commodity-based enterprises across rural Indonesia
Indonesia’s commodity ecosystem received a boost as Kliring Berjangka Indonesia (KBI) partnered with Singapore-based technology firm SCash to support the revitalisation of commodity-based enterprises, particularly those managed by village cooperatives and rural entrepreneurs. The collaboration aims to strengthen participation in structured commodity markets through improved governance and digital integration.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment to reinforcing Indonesia’s national commodity ecosystem by combining SCash’s technological capabilities and ecosystem development expertise with KBI’s role as a state-owned enterprise responsible for clearing, guarantees, transaction settlement, and governance within Indonesia’s commodity trading system. KBI operates under the Danareksa holding of state-owned enterprises.
According to Michael Lee Eng Yew, Chief Executive Officer of SCash, the collaboration goes beyond technology deployment and focuses on enabling real economic participation. He noted that the initiative seeks to help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), cooperatives, and village-based entrepreneurs engage more safely and effectively in structured commodity markets, particularly in agriculture and community-based economic sectors.
To address persistent challenges such as limited access to digital infrastructure, governance systems, and organised markets, SCash is also working with Kliring Perdagangan Berjangka Indonesia (KPBI), along with Karya Jasa Internasional, the Asosiasi Pengusaha Usaha Desa Indonesia, and Daya Teknologi Nusantara to develop and utilise the Warehouse Receipt System (SRG). This initiative is expected to improve accessibility, efficiency, and value creation for local commodities.
The collaboration aligns with the Indonesian Government’s efforts to strengthen village economies and promote sustainable, transparent, and efficient commodity governance. Through integrated systems and long-term ecosystem partnerships, the initiative seeks to ensure that village enterprises and cooperatives are not left behind as Indonesia’s commodity and digital economies continue to evolve.
