Mega Fam Iftar 2026 engages ASEAN media and travel partners to promote Malaysia’s Ramadan tourism offerings
Tourism Malaysia launched the Mega Fam Iftar 2026 programme in Putrajaya from 27 February to 3 March 2026 in support of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026). The initiative aimed to strengthen engagement with media practitioners and travel trade partners across ASEAN while promoting Malaysia as a destination for cultural and gastronomic tourism.

The five-day, four-night programme brought together 24 media representatives and travel agents from Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Laos, and Cambodia. Participants were invited to experience Malaysia’s Ramadan celebrations, including iftar traditions and cultural events listed under the VM2026 Calendar of Events.
According to Mohd. Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, flagship events such as Iftar@KL, organised by Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara (JKKN), and Festival Ramadan Putrajaya by Perbadanan Putrajaya have been incorporated into the VM2026 promotional calendar. He stated that the Mega Fam Iftar 2026 programme was designed to provide ASEAN media and travel partners with first-hand exposure to Malaysia’s cultural and culinary offerings, while amplifying regional promotional outreach.

The programme highlighted Malaysia’s culinary heritage as a central theme, showcasing Ramadan bazaars and traditional iftar gatherings that reflect the country’s multicultural identity and community values. These experiences were positioned as part of Malaysia’s broader tourism proposition in the gastronomy and cultural tourism segments.
Participants explored key destinations in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, including Seri Negara, The Exchange TRX, Sultan Abdul Samad Building, and KL Tower. The two cities were selected for their roles as international gateways and administrative centres, offering a comprehensive view of Malaysia’s urban development and cultural landscape.
Tourism Malaysia noted that the country recorded 42.2 million visitor arrivals in 2025, representing an 11.2 per cent increase compared to 2024. The agency expressed confidence that continued collaboration with media and industry partners would support sustained tourism growth in the lead-up to Visit Malaysia 2026.
The programme concluded with appreciation extended to participating media and travel partners, with expectations of continued joint promotional initiatives to further position Malaysia’s cultural and culinary attractions in regional and international markets.
