A special reception in Singapore celebrated International Women’s Day and showcased traditional Chinese cuisine and culture.
In celebration of International Women’s Day, Madam Yang Qing, Spouse of the Chinese Ambassador to Singapore, and Madam Kong Yuan, Director of the China Cultural Centre in Singapore, hosted the International Women’s Day Reception and “Happy Chinese New Year” – “Chinese Taste” Food Tasting Event in Singapore.
The event was organised by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Singapore, the China Cultural Centre in Singapore, and the China Center of International Cultural Exchange and Tourism Promotion.
Held in Singapore, the reception brought together distinguished guests to celebrate the achievements of women and to promote cultural exchange between China and Singapore. The event combined the spirit of International Women’s Day with the festive atmosphere of the Chinese New Year.

During the programme, guests were introduced to Confucian family cuisine, a traditional style of Chinese cooking rooted in the teachings of Confucius. Speakers explained that this cuisine reflects respect for ingredients, balance of flavours, refined culinary techniques and elegant presentation. These values have been passed down through generations.
Confucian family cuisine also emphasises moderation and harmony. Seasonal menus for spring, summer, autumn and winter reflect respect for nature. Banquet seating arrangements and dining etiquette follow traditional rituals, transforming meals into meaningful cultural experiences.
Guests enjoyed a tasting of classic dishes such as steamed tofu stuffed with vegetables, Shandong-style braised winter bamboo shoots with mushrooms, Confucius family premium dishes and crispy fried mullet. Each dish demonstrated careful craftsmanship and cultural heritage.
The reception strengthened friendship between China and Singapore and highlighted the role of women in building cultural understanding and co-operation.
