The Philippine Embassy in Singapore, led by Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig, participated in the Second Asia-Europe Friendship Walk held in Singapore under the theme “Bridging Asia and Europe in the AI Age.” The event marked ASEM Day and the 29th anniversary of the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF).

The Friendship Walk commemorated two milestones: Asia-Europe Meeting Day on 1 March and ASEF’s anniversary on 15 February 2026. The initiative aimed to promote awareness of ASEF’s programmes, celebrate Asia-Europe cooperation, and reaffirm the Foundation’s people-to-people engagement in the context of digitalisation and artificial intelligence.

Approximately 80 representatives from Asian and European member states, including the ASEF Secretariat, joined the walk. The Philippine Embassy fielded a 23-member delegation composed of officers and personnel from various sections of the mission, including representatives from the Office of the Philippine Defense and Armed Forces Attaché.

The walk commenced at the DBS Foundation Esplanade Outdoor Theatre and concluded at Marina Bay Sands. The event provided a platform for diplomatic representatives to engage in dialogue and collaboration in a non-formal setting.

As the people-to-people pillar of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), ASEF complements ASEM’s political and economic tracks. In recognition of ASEF’s initiatives on gender mainstreaming, particularly in sustainable development, members of the Philippine delegation wore purple to signify support for gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to continued participation in initiatives that strengthen Asia-Europe ties and promote inclusive cooperation in an evolving digital landscape.
