Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will visit Tokyo from 17 to 19 March 2026 to mark 60 years of ties and strengthen cooperation with Japan.

Lawrence Wong, Prime Minister and Minister for Finance of Singapore, will make an official visit to Tokyo, Japan, from 17 to 19 March 2026. The visit marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Japan and is part of Wong’s introductory visits to key regional partners.

During his trip, Wong will meet Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. He will attend a Guard of Honour Welcome Ceremony and will be hosted by Takaichi at a working dinner. The visit aims to reaffirm strong bilateral ties and explore further areas of cooperation.

Wong is also scheduled to meet senior Japanese political and business leaders to discuss economic collaboration and regional developments. In addition, he will engage with overseas Singaporeans living in Japan during a reception in Tokyo.

The Prime Minister will be accompanied by several senior officials, including Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Manpower and Minister-in-charge of Energy and Science & Technology Tan See Leng, Senior Minister of State Sim Ann, Minister of State Rahayu Mahzam, and Minister of State for Defence Desmond Choo.

During Wong’s absence, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong will serve as Acting Prime Minister from 17 to 19 March 2026.

The visit highlights the close and long-standing partnership between Singapore and Japan, as both countries celebrate six decades of diplomatic relations and look toward strengthening future cooperation.
