Hari Raya Aidilfitri continues to serve as a meaningful occasion for strengthening regional friendships, as Singapore’s Minister for Social and Family Development, Masagos Zulkifli, and Minister for Education, Desmond Lee, visited Johor on 21 March 2026. The ministers crossed the Causeway to attend the Hari Raya Open House hosted by the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Idris, continuing a longstanding diplomatic tradition between the two neighbours.

The visit reflects a deeply rooted practice in which Singapore’s leaders participate in the Johor royal family’s Hari Raya celebrations. This annual engagement underscores the close cultural and historical ties shared between the communities of Singapore and Johor, particularly given their geographical proximity and intertwined heritage.

During the gathering, both ministers extended festive greetings to Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar as well as the Regent of Johor. The occasion also provided an opportunity for meaningful exchanges on strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including education, sports and culture—areas that play a vital role in fostering closer people-to-people connections.

Such engagements highlight the importance of informal diplomacy in reinforcing trust and mutual understanding between neighbouring nations. By maintaining these traditions, both Singapore and Johor continue to nurture a relationship built on respect, shared values and a commitment to regional harmony.
