Singapore business leaders and ministers gather to discuss Budget 2026, focusing on AI adoption and economic resilience.
The Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) hosted its Post-Budget Fireside Chat on 31 March 2026, bringing together key policymakers and members of the business community for an in-depth discussion on Singapore’s Budget 2026 and its implications for businesses.
Moderated by SICCI Chairman Neil Parekh, the session featured Chee Hong Tat as Guest of Honour and Gan Siow Huang as Special Guest. The fireside chat provided a platform for direct engagement between the government and the business community, focusing on economic priorities, fiscal strategies, and future growth areas.
Opening the session, Mr Parekh welcomed attendees and set the tone for the discussion, stating, “Welcome to the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Post-Budget Fireside Chat 2026.” He emphasized the importance of understanding how national policies translate into business opportunities, adding, “This morning session aims to provide members with insights on Singapore’s Budget 2026 and its applications for businesses.”

A central theme of the discussion was the growing importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping Singapore’s economic future. Raising the topic, Mr Parekh invited insights on how businesses can effectively adopt AI and other emerging technologies to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving landscape.
Mr Chee Hong Tat highlighted that AI is expected to be a major driver of growth across sectors. He explained, “The reason why we want to form this council is because we know that AI is going to be a key driver going forward.” He noted that while AI presents significant opportunities for productivity and innovation, businesses must also be aware of potential risks, saying, “It is important for us to understand what are some of the opportunities that AI can bring, but also equally important to understand what are some of the risks and the downsides.”
He further underscored Singapore’s collaborative approach in addressing these challenges, pointing to the role of partnerships between government, industry, and workers. “Using our tripartite partnership… allows us to pool ideas together… so that we enable our companies and our workers to make full use of AI,” he said. He added that Singapore’s ability to invest in technology and workforce training places it in a strong position compared to many other economies facing fiscal constraints.
Ms Gan Siow Huang built on this perspective by addressing both the opportunities and disruptions brought about by AI. She remarked, “AI can cause a lot of disruption and uncertainty… but we see it as an opportunity.” She emphasized that AI can serve as a differentiator for businesses, stating, “It can help differentiate good companies from better and great companies.”

She also highlighted structural challenges such as an aging population and tightening manpower conditions, noting that these trends make AI adoption increasingly necessary. According to Ms Gan, AI can help businesses remain competitive not only within Singapore but also on the global stage. She observed that while many companies have already begun adopting AI, progress remains uneven, adding, “Many companies already are embracing AI, but it is not very even… we want to see a more systematic and structural approach towards AI adoption in Singapore.”
The discussion reflected a clear consensus that AI will play a central role in Singapore’s economic transformation, with strong support needed in areas such as workforce training, technology investment, and coordinated policy implementation. The fireside chat also reinforced the importance of continued dialogue between policymakers and businesses to ensure that initiatives introduced in Budget 2026 translate into practical benefits on the ground.
The event concluded with a networking luncheon, providing attendees with further opportunities to exchange ideas and strengthen connections within the business ecosystem.
