Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese highlight strong cooperation and shared commitment to resilience.

Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong, and Prime Minister of Australia, The Honourable Anthony Albanese, reaffirmed their countries’ close partnership during a joint press conference in Singapore in April 2026.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Wong extended a warm welcome to Prime Minister Albanese and his delegation, highlighting the strong friendship and trust between both nations. He noted that while the global environment presents challenges, it also offers opportunities for countries to work more closely together.

Both leaders agreed on the importance of keeping trade flowing smoothly between Singapore and Australia. Prime Minister Albanese reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to continue supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Singapore, which remains vital for its energy needs. In return, Prime Minister Wong assured that Singapore will continue supplying refined petroleum products, including diesel, to Australia.

The two countries also agreed to accelerate efforts towards a legally binding agreement on economic resilience and essential supplies. This agreement aims to strengthen supply chains and ensure reliable access to critical resources for both nations.

To further enhance cooperation, Singapore and Australia will establish new platforms such as an Energy Ministerial Dialogue and an Economic Resilience Dialogue. These initiatives will support closer coordination and enable both countries to respond effectively to global developments.

Prime Minister Wong emphasised that the partnership between Singapore and Australia is built on mutual trust and shared values. He recalled how both countries worked closely during the COVID-19 pandemic to keep supply chains open and support each other.

He expressed confidence that through continued collaboration and strong leadership, both nations will not only navigate current challenges successfully but also emerge stronger and more resilient.

The meeting reaffirmed a shared commitment to openness, connectivity, and long-term cooperation, strengthening ties between Singapore and Australia for the future.
