A vibrant cultural event in Singapore marks Indian New Year with unity, performances, and the launch of a new community outreach bus.

On 19 April 2026, the Little India Shop Owners and Heritage Association partnered with the Singapore Indian Development Association to host the Indian New Year Celebrations 2026 at the PGP Auditorium in Singapore.

The event brought together nearly 15 ethnic Indian communities living in Singapore. It highlighted cultural diversity through traditional performances, music, and community activities. The celebration aimed to promote unity, inclusivity, and the preservation of heritage.

Mr Regunarth (Siva), Chairman of LISHA, said the Indian New Year represents renewal and unity. He added that working with SINDA reflects a shared goal of supporting the community while keeping traditions alive.

A key highlight of the event was the official launch of the SINDA Bus. This new initiative will act as a mobile community space. It will bring SINDA’s programmes and services directly to neighborhoods across Singapore, making support easier to access.

The bus will host various activities, including the ‘Book Wizards’ reading programme for children, health screenings for seniors, and community engagement events. It is expected to visit multiple locations throughout the year to connect with residents.

Mr Anbarasu Rajendran, CEO of SINDA, said the bus will help strengthen outreach efforts. He explained that bringing services closer to people will build stronger connections and improve accessibility for families in need.

The collaboration between LISHA and SINDA shows how partnerships can support both cultural celebration and community development. The Indian New Year Celebrations 2026 not only honored tradition but also introduced new ways to engage and uplift the community.
