Singapore and Indonesia sign environmental cooperation pact on 29 June 2026.
Singapore and Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Environmental Cooperation on 29 June 2026. The agreement was formalised by Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu and Indonesia’s Minister of Environment Dr Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat.
The MoU sets out a framework for collaboration in five areas: circular economy and waste management; environmental management (water and air quality); climate change; transboundary pollution; and workforce development for the low-carbon economy.
According to the press release, Indonesia’s Minister Jumhur stated that the MoU represents an overarching partnership that will lead to concrete joint initiatives on climate change, waste management, air pollution control, and addressing prolonged El Niño impacts. Minister Fu said the agreement marks the beginning of many conversations at both government and private sector levels, with a focus on implementation.

Both countries will pursue technical exchanges, joint studies and projects, capacity-building programmes, and regular ministerial and senior-official dialogues under the MoU. The agreement underscores a shared commitment to sustainable development, and with implementation already prioritised, the partnership is expected to yield tangible progress on the region’s most pressing environmental challenges.
