The event was marked by the joint signing of the INDOSIN Defence Alumni Initiating Directive and the unveiling of the alumni logo.

The ceremony was attended by officers from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) who had previously participated in each other’s professional military education and training programmes. The INDOSIN Defence Alumni Initiative aims to bring together generations of SAF and TNI officers who have taken part in bilateral training and professional military courses. By maintaining personal and professional connections beyond active service, the initiative seeks to strengthen people-to-people ties and foster closer defence cooperation between Singapore and Indonesia across generations.

Speaking at the launch, General Agus Subiyanto described the initiative as another milestone in bilateral defence relations, noting that he was honoured to participate in the launch and expressing confidence that it would strengthen relationships between personnel from the TNI and SAF, as well as between the two institutions in the future.

During a separate meeting, Minister Chan and Defence Minister Sjafrie reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing bilateral defence cooperation and exploring new areas of collaboration. Both sides also underscored the importance of continued engagement through multilateral platforms, including the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM).

Minister Chan’s visit to Indonesia from 14 to 15 July 2026 highlighted the strong and enduring defence relationship between the two neighbouring countries. The launch of the INDOSIN Defence Alumni Initiative is expected to provide a lasting platform for professional engagement and reinforce bilateral defence cooperation in support of regional peace, stability, and security.
