The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore (KBRI Singapura) has opened registration for a series of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day sports, cultural and academic competitions, inviting the Indonesian community in Singapore to celebrate the nation’s independence through sportsmanship, creativity and community engagement.

Held throughout July and August 2026, the programmes form part of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, bringing together Indonesian students, professionals, migrant workers and families living in Singapore.

The sporting calendar begins with the KBRI Singapura Chess Tournament, which uses a knockout format with a 15-minute time control plus a 10-second increment. The Round of 64 will take place on 19 July, followed by the championship round on 23 August at the Indonesian School Singapore (SIS) and KBRI Singapura. Registration is available via the QR code on the official poster or at bit.ly/CaturKBRISingapura.

The Volleyball Tournament will be held on 19 July and 9 August at SIS from 10.00am to 6.00pm SGT, while the Badminton Tournament follows on 25 and 26 July, also at SIS, beginning at 8.00am. Meanwhile, the Table Tennis Tournament features five categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. Preliminary matches began on 12 July, with the finals scheduled for 23 August at KBRI Singapura. Participants may register by scanning the QR code on the official event poster.

Beyond sports, KBRI Singapura is also promoting cultural participation through the Poco-Poco Dance Competition, which is open to Indonesian migrant worker (PMI) communities in Singapore. Teams of up to 15 members are required to submit an original three-minute performance video by 1 August, while registration closes on 17 July via bit.ly/KOMPETISI-SENAM-HUT-RI. The five highest-scoring teams will advance to perform during the Embassy’s main Independence Day celebration.

The Embassy is also organising the KBRI Singapura Academic Writing Competition 2026, open to Indonesian university students, the Indonesian diaspora in Singapore, and Singaporean citizens. Participants may submit papers on Indonesia-Singapore bilateral economic relations or nation and character building, with submissions closing on 14 August through bit.ly/KTIKBRISG2026. Secondary school students are invited to participate in the Indonesia Independence Day Essay Competition, themed “Breaking Digital Boundaries: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Strengthen National Unity.” The competition is open to students from Indonesia and Indonesian Overseas Schools (SILN). Registration and submissions remain open until 10 August, with winners to be announced on 17 August. KBRI Singapura said additional activities, including padel, tennis and a recreational cycling event, will be announced through its official social media channels in the coming weeks.

As Indonesia celebrates its 81st Independence Day, KBRI Singapura hopes the programmes will strengthen connections among the Indonesian diaspora in Singapore, encourage healthy competition, preserve Indonesian culture and inspire participants of all ages to contribute to Indonesia’s future through innovation, collaboration and a shared sense of national pride.
