As ASEAN marks the 31st anniversary of Vietnam’s membership, the country continues to play a leading role in implementing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, strengthening regional cooperation, connectivity, and sustainable development.
As ASEAN commemorates the 31st anniversary of Vietnam’s accession on 28 July 2026, the country has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 by driving regional cooperation and translating long-term strategic goals into concrete action. According to Ambassador Ton Thi Ngoc Huong, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to ASEAN, the country has been actively developing implementation plans, strengthening monitoring mechanisms, and enhancing cross-sectoral coordination to support ASEAN’s next phase of development.
Vietnam has also introduced initiatives aimed at reinforcing ASEAN solidarity, improving regional resilience, accelerating digital and green transitions, addressing climate change, and enhancing food and energy security. Domestically, the country has integrated the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 into its socio-economic development strategies and is among the first ASEAN members to launch a National Action Programme for 2026–2030 to implement the Vision and its Strategic Plans.
On the economic front, Ambassador Ton highlighted the opportunities presented by the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and ASEAN’s extensive network of free trade agreements. These frameworks provide Vietnamese businesses with greater access to regional and global markets while supporting deeper participation in international supply chains. Viet Nam also aims to leverage the ASEAN Comprehensive Investment Agreement (ACIA) to attract high-value investment and strengthen its position in advanced manufacturing and technology-driven industries.
The Ambassador further emphasised the importance of regional connectivity initiatives, including the ASEAN Power Grid, the ASEAN Connectivity Strategic Plan 2045, and the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA), which is expected to be signed later this year. These initiatives are designed to enhance energy cooperation, improve transport and digital infrastructure, facilitate trusted cross-border data flows, and create a more integrated regional digital economy, benefiting businesses of all sizes.
Looking ahead, Vietnam sees ASEAN cooperation in emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum technology, renewable energy, the circular economy, and climate resilience as essential to driving sustainable growth. By strengthening partnerships across these strategic areas, Viet Nam continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting a more connected, innovative, and resilient ASEAN Community under the Vision 2045 framework.
