Kazakhstan’s leading university expands international partnerships, advances research excellence, and strengthens AI and academic collaboration.
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) has continued to strengthen its position as a global centre for education, research, and innovation, reinforcing Kazakhstan’s commitment to academic excellence and international cooperation. Ranked among the world’s leading universities, KazNU has expanded its global partnerships while advancing research, talent development, and innovation.
As one of Central Asia’s leading higher education institutions, KazNU has earned international recognition for its academic performance and research capabilities. The university is ranked 166th in the QS World University Rankings and 38th in Asia, placing it among the world’s top 200 universities. It has also received the prestigious QS 5 Stars rating in recognition of its achievements across teaching, research, employability, and internationalisation.
KazNU currently serves approximately 30,000 students, including more than 7,000 international students from 55 countries. The university offers 566 academic programmes, including 62 dual-degree programmes developed in partnership with international institutions. Its academic community comprises around 2,900 faculty members, with more than 80 per cent holding doctoral or PhD qualifications.
The university has also continued to strengthen its research ecosystem through 344 active research projects supported by more than 140 research laboratories. These initiatives contribute to scientific advancement across multiple disciplines while supporting innovation and knowledge creation.
International collaboration remains a key pillar of KazNU’s development strategy. The university works with more than 700 universities and research institutions across 50 countries and has expanded its global presence through overseas campuses and strategic partnerships. Recent initiatives have included the introduction of artificial intelligence-focused programmes and collaboration with internationally recognised institutions, including Tsinghua University, Penn State University, and University of Tsukuba.
As Kazakhstan continues to invest in higher education, scientific research, and innovation, KazNU is expected to play an increasingly significant role in advancing international academic cooperation, developing future talent, and supporting the country’s long-term knowledge-based economy.
