Dr. Kao Kim Hourn welcomed 23 junior fellows participating in the fifth ASEAN Junior Fellowship Programme, offering insights into the work of the ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN’s vision for the region’s future.
Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, this afternoon welcomed and engaged with participants of the fifth ASEAN Junior Fellowship Programme with the ASEAN Secretariat (AJFP). The session brought together 23 junior fellows from ASEAN Member States for an open exchange on ASEAN’s work, priorities and regional cooperation efforts.
During the candid engagement, Dr. Kao shared valuable insights into the role and responsibilities of the Secretary-General of ASEAN, including the leadership required to support ASEAN’s regional agenda. The discussion also provided the junior fellows with a closer understanding of how the ASEAN Secretariat supports Member States in advancing cooperation across various areas.
The Secretary-General also highlighted the work of the ASEAN Secretariat in facilitating coordination among ASEAN Member States and supporting the implementation of regional commitments. The exchange enabled participants to gain a broader perspective on the institutional mechanisms and collaborative efforts that underpin ASEAN’s continued development.
A key focus of the discussion was ASEAN’s priorities in strengthening regional cooperation and advancing the implementation of ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future. The long-term vision aims to guide ASEAN towards a resilient, innovative, dynamic and people-centred community while responding to emerging regional and global challenges.
The engagement formed part of the fifth ASEAN Junior Fellowship Programme, which provides young professionals from ASEAN Member States with an opportunity to gain first-hand exposure to the work of the ASEAN Secretariat and deepen their understanding of ASEAN. Through exchanges such as this, the programme contributes to developing a new generation of professionals equipped to support ASEAN cooperation and the region’s shared future.
