Ms Margrethe Vestager, Chair of the Board of Governors of the Technical University of Denmark and former Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, visited Singapore from 17 to 22 August 2026 as the 85th Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellow (LKYEF) and the first Fellow from Denmark.

During her Fellowship, Ms Vestager met President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister Grace Fu, Minister Josephine Teo and Minister of State-designate Foo Cexiang. She also engaged government agencies, industry stakeholders and partners through meetings and site visits.

Discussions with Dr Balakrishnan covered challenges facing Singapore, Denmark and the European Union amid global uncertainty, as well as opportunities in trade and the green and digital transitions. They also exchanged views on harnessing artificial intelligence while ensuring its responsible development and use.

Singapore and Denmark, as members of the Forum of Small States, share a commitment to an open, rules-based international order. The Fellowship provided opportunities to explore further cooperation and mutual learning in climate action, innovation and the digital economy.
