On 25 August 2026, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore hosted a diplomatic reception at Nusantara Hall to mark Indonesia’s 81st Independence Anniversary. Singapore’s Coordinating Minister for Public Services and Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing, attended as the Guest of Honour and delivered welcoming remarks.

Hosted by H.E. Dr. Hotmangaradja Pandjaitan, Ambassador of Indonesia to Singapore, the reception brought together the diplomatic occasion with a presentation of Indonesian cultural heritage.

Traditional dancers performed in elaborate costumes against a backdrop depicting Indonesia, accompanied by traditional musical instruments and gongs. The performances added a cultural dimension to the evening as diplomats and invited representatives gathered for the national celebration.

Indonesian heritage also featured throughout the venue through displays of batik, woven textiles and handicrafts. Traditional and regional attire added further colour to the reception, while a pair of Ondel-ondel, traditional Betawi figures associated with Jakarta, provided a prominent cultural symbol.

The reception offered a glimpse into Indonesia’s diverse regional traditions through its performances, music, craftsmanship and cultural imagery. These elements complemented the diplomatic gathering and brought different expressions of Indonesian heritage into the celebration.

The evening marked Indonesia’s 81st year of independence in Singapore while providing an opportunity to celebrate the country’s cultural heritage alongside its diplomatic engagement. The reception reflected the continuing value of culture in bringing people together and strengthening connections between Indonesia and Singapore.
