The Philippine Bayanihan Society Singapore (PBSS) celebrated its 25th anniversary on 20 August 2026, bringing together members of the Filipino community, former and current officers, volunteers and partners. The milestone celebration highlighted PBSS’s longstanding contribution to strengthening unity and community spirit among Filipinos in Singapore.
Founded in 2001, PBSS has served as an important platform for the Filipino community in Singapore, organising educational, cultural, recreational and community activities over the past 25 years. The anniversary celebration opened with dinner and a slideshow showcasing photographs of the organisation’s milestones, programmes and contributions throughout its history.
In her welcome remarks, PBSS President Ms. Minerva Lau reflected on the organisation’s journey and acknowledged the individuals who have contributed to its development. She also introduced PBSS founder and first president, Ms. Jennie Chua, recognising her dedication and efforts in establishing the organisation. A photo and video presentation documenting PBSS’s history followed, before former and current officers were honoured for their service and contributions. Volunteers, community partners and representatives of the Philippine Embassy were also recognised during a commemorative group photograph.
Former PBSS President and incumbent officer Mr. Joseph Abuan subsequently outlined the organisation’s upcoming activities and initiatives, including a basketball tournament, line dancing and other community programmes. The celebration concluded with a ceremonial cake-cutting and toast, while guests were assured that PBSS would continue its efforts to serve and bring together the Filipino community in Singapore. Officials from Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also attended the celebration, which was followed by PBSS’s Annual General Meeting and Board Meeting.
The Philippine Embassy reaffirmed its support for PBSS and other Filipino community organisations that promote unity, volunteerism and the welfare of Filipinos in Singapore. The Embassy congratulated PBSS on reaching its 25th anniversary and expressed its best wishes for the organisation’s continued success in strengthening community ties and serving Filipinos in Singapore in the years ahead.
