Minister Alvin Tan and Mr. Zhang Wei discussed opportunities to expand Singapore-Henan ties in multiple sectors
Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Ministry of Finance Alvin Tan held his first meeting with Zhang Wei, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Henan Provincial Committee, in Zhengzhou, China.
The meeting featured discussions on Singapore-Henan relations and opportunities to develop further links between Singapore and Henan. With a population of almost 100 million, Henan is one of China’s most populous provinces and has a long history and cultural heritage rooted in the Central Plains.
The discussions also covered Henan’s economic development in areas including advanced manufacturing, technology and aviation. Minister Tan noted the growing presence of Singapore-linked business activity in the province, including BYD’s operations and Chinese consumer brand Mixue.
Minister Tan and Zhang also discussed opportunities to expand exchanges between young people and universities. They considered building on Zhengzhou University’s presence in Singapore and exploring further cooperation in education and youth exchanges.
Other areas discussed included financial technology, financial services, agri-food, culture and tourism. The meeting also covered opportunities to strengthen links between the Singapore Exchange (SGX) and the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange.
Following the meeting, Minister Tan described the discussion as “good” and said he looked forward to staying in touch and identifying further ways for Singapore and Henan to work together.
The engagement highlighted the range of existing and potential links between Singapore and Henan, spanning business, education, finance, technology, food, culture and tourism.
