Minister Balakrishnan participated in UNGA meetings and delivered Singapore’s national statement
Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan attended the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States, from 22 to 28 September 2026. During the official visit, he participated in high-level meetings and events, engaged foreign counterparts and international officials, and delivered Singapore’s national statement at the UNGA General Debate on 26 September.
Minister Balakrishnan hosted several high-level engagements, including the Global Governance Group Ministerial Meeting and a reception for the Forum of Small States (FOSS). He also co-chaired the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with Bahrain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdullatif Bin Rashid Al Zayani.
The Minister attended the ASEAN-Pacific Alliance Ministerial Meeting, as well as several high-level meetings addressing international and regional issues. These included the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) Leaders’ Meeting, the High-Level Ministerial Meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, and the High-Level Meeting on the Global Development Initiative.
During his time in New York, Minister Balakrishnan also delivered a speech at the Asia Society and engaged policymakers and academics on regional geopolitics and emerging issues. His programme included discussions with representatives from governments, international organisations and academic institutions.
At the United Nations General Assembly, Minister Balakrishnan represented Singapore in the General Debate and delivered Singapore’s national statement on 26 September 2026. He also met foreign counterparts, as well as United Nations and United States personalities based in New York.
Minister Balakrishnan was accompanied by officials from Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs throughout the visit.
