Crown Prince visits Singapore for Young Leaders’ Programme and bilateral engagements official
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office of Brunei Darussalam, visited Singapore from 28 September to 2 October 2026 for the 12th Singapore-Brunei Young Leaders’ Programme (YLP). During the visit, His Royal Highness met Singapore leaders to discuss global developments and further cooperation between Singapore and Brunei.
His Royal Highness was hosted to tea by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and met Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong. He was also hosted to lunch by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, with discussions covering global developments of common interest and opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation in areas of shared interest.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the special relationship between Singapore and Brunei, particularly as the two countries prepare to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Currency Interchangeability Agreement in 2027. His Royal Highness also visited Tuas Port during the visit.
Prime Minister Wong said it was “always a pleasure to catch up” with His Royal Highness, who returned to Singapore for the 12th YLP. Reflecting on the programme, which he joined at its inaugural edition in 2013, Mr Wong said he was “heartened to see it nurture friendships between successive generations of our leaders, strengthening the deep trust that underpins our special relationship.”
The Prime Minister added that they had held a wide-ranging discussion on global developments affecting both countries. “At a time when the global environment is becoming more uncertain and complex, close and trusted partnerships like ours are even more valuable,” he said.
In the coming days, His Royal Highness was scheduled to visit the Singapore Oceanarium, SAFTI City, Temasek Shophouse, the SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute of Biodiversity Medicine, Sultan Mosque, the Malay Heritage Centre, Punggol Digital District and the Singapore Institute of Technology. He was also scheduled to attend a dinner hosted by Prime Minister Wong.
On the sidelines of the YLP, Singapore and Brunei signed a Memorandum of Understanding to further cooperation on maritime and port development. Since its launch in 2013, the YLP has supported personal ties between successive generations of leaders from both countries.
