IN Diplomacy Editor-in-Chief Nomita Dhar visited the new office of the Embassy of Uzbekistan at Phillip Street in the Central Business District today, where she was received by Ambassador H.E. Alisher Kayumov.
The meeting focused on the historic upswing in bilateral ties following the Official Visit of Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong to Uzbekistan (27-31 August 2026)
SM Lee’s call on President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 28 August reaffirmed warm relations and set a forward roadmap. Singapore’s investments in Uzbekistan have now reached 2 billion, with bilateral trade on a steady rise.
Three key outcomes from the visit were highlighted:
Launch of FTA Talks – A Joint Statement to begin negotiations for an Uzbekistan-Singapore Free Trade Agreement was signed, witnessed by SM Lee and Minister Laziz Kudratov.
SEZ & Financial Centre Cooperation: An MOU between Singapore Cooperation Enterprise and MIIT to apply Singapore expertise to Special Economic Zones and the development of the Tashkent International Financial Center and digital banking.
US$100 Million Agribusiness Project An MOU for a Wilmar-Indorama joint venture in Tashkent region for vegetable oil processing, feed and poultry.
The Ambassador also welcomed Uzbekistan’s recent accession to the UN Singapore Convention on Mediation.
Ms Dhar and Ambassador Kayumov also discussed Uzbekistan’s feature in the upcoming IN Diplomacy Special Central Asia Supplement 2026
The Embassy’s move to Phillip Street underscores Uzbekistan’s expanding presence in Singapore as it strengthens its position as a bridge between Central Asia and ASEAN.
