Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat marked the completion of the Eastern Corridor, enhancing connectivity and green spaces for Singapore’s East Coast residents.

On 17 February 2024, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies, Heng Swee Keat, alongside Senior Minister of State Tan Kiat How, and East Coast GRC Grassroots Advisers Dr. Maliki Osman and Ms. Cheryl Chan, celebrated the completion of the Eastern Corridor. This significant development connects major parks across the east of Singapore through an 18-kilometre greenway, enabling residents to enjoy seamless access to nature by walking, jogging, or cycling from Pasir Ris Park to East Coast Park, among others.

The Eastern Corridor is part of Singapore’s broader initiative to transform into a “City in Nature,” in line with the Singapore Green Plan 2030. This plan aims to ensure every household is within a 10-minute walk from a park, enhancing the quality of life for all residents. The corridor not only connects various green spaces but also promotes social connectivity by providing a communal space for families, friends, and neighbors to gather and create lasting memories.

During the event, DPM Heng highlighted the successful planting of over 600,000 trees as part of the OneMillionTrees movement and announced the addition of 100 trees to commemorate the corridor’s completion. He encouraged residents to actively participate in environmental initiatives, such as the Friends of the Parks and East Coast Green Ambassadors Programme, to further foster a green and vibrant community.

The completion of the Eastern Corridor reflects Singapore’s commitment to environmental conservation and community building, ensuring that the city-state remains a lush, green, and inclusive place for future generations.
