Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat attended the Teochew Federation’s Inauguration Ceremony for the 7th Council and 12th Anniversary Dinner on 21 July 2024. He commended the contributions of past leaders and highlighted the importance of preserving Teochew culture.

Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat attended the Teochew Federation’s Inauguration Ceremony for the 7th Council and 12th Anniversary Dinner on 21 July 2024. During the event, he praised the federation’s efforts to preserve Teochew culture and support its community.

DPM Heng acknowledged the contributions of the 6th Council, led by Chairman Mr. Zhang Jian’an, and congratulated Dr. Ng Kiau Qing, the newly appointed Chairman of the 7th Council. He emphasized the importance of unity among the Teochew community, citing the federation’s founding in 2011 as a crucial step in bringing together various Teochew organizations in Singapore.

DPM Heng also pointed out the federation’s dedication to public welfare. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the federation launched initiatives to provide financial assistance to those affected. Additionally, the federation supports education, culture, and charity through various programs.

He called on the Teochew Federation to continue supporting Singapore’s social harmony and economic transformation. He encouraged members to adopt new technologies and enhance skills to remain competitive in a changing global landscape.

DPM Heng concluded by expressing his confidence in the 7th Council’s ability to build on the federation’s solid foundation and achieve greater success. He congratulated the Teochew Federation on its 12th anniversary and wished them continued prosperity.
