The 40th vOilah! French Film Festival, running from 14 to 30 November 2024, celebrates French cinematic heritage with a diverse line-up of screenings and special events across Singapore
Singapore, 25 October 2024 – The vOilah! French Film Festival returns to Singapore this year from 14 to 30 November 2024, marking its 40th anniversary with an impressive showcase of French cinematic works. Organised by the Embassy of France and co-presented by Alliance Française de Singapour, Shaw Organisation, and The Projector, this milestone edition will take audiences on a journey through the rich legacy of French film. Ambassador of France to Singapore, Her Excellency Minh-di Tang, highlighted the power of French cinema to bridge cultures, adding, “We hope to inspire a new generation of movie-goers with the magic of French storytelling and look forward to greater collaborations in the future.”
The festival’s line-up boasts 36 films, including beloved classics and recent box-office hits that span a wide array of genres, from comedies and adventure films to romantic dramas and family-friendly tales. A highlight of this year’s edition is The Count of Monte Cristo, an adaptation by Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière, which has drawn acclaim in France for its captivating tale of revenge. Other notable films include Prodigies, starring Camille Razat, known for her role in Emily in Paris, and Saint-Exupéry, a biography about the famed author of The Little Prince.

Expanding French cinema’s reach, the festival will partner with People’s Association to offer screenings at 15 community venues, the largest community outreach in the event’s history. This initiative aims to make French films accessible to families with PG-rated options such as Epic Tails and Chicken for Linda! — stories of friendship, courage, and family values that are sure to enchant audiences of all ages.

This year’s program will also include Q&A sessions with French actors Franck Dubosc, Camille Razat, and Mélanie Robert, providing audiences with a chance to engage with these artists directly. The festival’s finale will feature Spirit World, a collaboration between Singaporean director Eric Khoo and renowned French actress Catherine Deneuve, presented in partnership with the Singapore International Film Festival, showcasing a unique fusion of French and Singaporean storytelling.
