The 20th ASEAN-PAC Principals Meeting in Bali concluded with agreements on reviewing the anti-corruption action plan and launching key initiatives
Singapore, 5 December 2024 – The 20th Principals Meeting of the ASEAN Parties Against Corruption (ASEAN-PAC) continued its discussions on Tuesday, 3 December 2024, at the Bali Beach Convention Centre, Sanur, Indonesia. The meeting brought together anti-corruption leaders from ASEAN member states to review the implementation of the ASEAN-PAC Action Plan for 2023-2025 and outline future priorities.
Led by Johanis Tanak, Vice Chairman of Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the delegates agreed on three major points of review. The first focused on the implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC). ASEAN-PAC member states were noted to have actively engaged in addressing challenges and gaps in implementing UNCAC, with ten best-practice sharing activities conducted between 2023 and 2024. Tanak recommended adopting a standardised reporting format for such activities to enhance consistency.
The second point addressed the implementation of the ASEAN-PAC Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Member states reported progress in strengthening institutional capacities to combat corruption and shared practices at national and international levels. Six capacity-building workshops were conducted during 2023-2024, with a recommendation to enhance these initiatives by introducing supplementary planning documents.
The third focus was the launch of the ASEAN-PAC e-booklet, which highlights the history, achievements, and member profiles of the organisation. Officially introduced during the meeting, the e-booklet is now accessible online. Delegates were encouraged to promote the booklet through digital platforms to raise public awareness of ASEAN-PAC’s work.
