YAB Dato Onn Hafiz Ghazi’s Singapore visit underlines shared vision for stronger regional integration and growth.
SINGAPORE — Johor’s Menteri Besar, YAB Dato Onn Hafiz Ghazi, has confirmed that Singaporean companies have committed RM1.34 billion in investments to the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), marking a significant boost for Johor’s regional economic ambitions.
The announcement was made during YAB Dato Onn Hafiz’s official visit to Singapore as the 82nd Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellow. In meetings with Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong, both sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral trade, enhance cross-border infrastructure, and deepen economic collaboration through the JS-SEZ.
The Menteri Besar described the discussions as meaningful and strategic, with over 70 companies from Singapore, China, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Malaysia already expressing strong interest in Johor’s investment potential. Five Singaporean firms have pledged RM1.34 billion, with an additional RM78 million under negotiation for the next wave of JS-SEZ projects.
Key initiatives highlighted include a proposed Free Trade Zone, smoother movement of goods and skilled workers across the Causeway, and a second Rapid Transit System (RTS) link connecting western Johor to Singapore. YAB Dato Onn Hafiz reaffirmed Johor’s commitment to bold but people-centric policies, stressing the need to balance growth with quality of life, improved transport, and cost-of-living measures.
As only the ninth Malaysian to receive the Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship, YAB Dato Onn Hafiz’s visit reflects Johor’s focus on building strong, sustainable partnerships with Singapore and the wider region, rooted in trust, shared prosperity and a future-ready approach.
