Step into 700 years of Singapore’s maritime heritage through an immersive, interactive light and sound showcase.
The National Museum of Singapore is set to unveil Singapore Odyssea, a major new permanent exhibition experience housed within the iconic Shaw Foundation Glass Rotunda. Launching on 8 August 2025, the exhibition marks the museum’s signature offering in celebration of Singapore’s 60th year of independence.
Presented as a “time-travelling voyage”, Singapore Odyssea invites visitors to explore over 700 years of Singapore’s history through a blend of art, light, and storytelling. This immersive experience uses multimedia technologies and interactive displays to bring key moments from the nation’s past to life, with a particular focus on Singapore’s evolving relationship with the sea.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is the use of RFID wristbands, which activate a personalised digital guide inspired by native wildlife. This “magical companion” leads visitors through animated landscapes, historical dioramas, and mythical stories.
Visitors can expect to encounter scenes that reflect Singapore’s transformation over the centuries encouraging reflection on themes such as identity, sustainability and global connectivity. Through the engaging storytelling format, the exhibition also aims to foster a deeper awareness of the ecological significance of the sea and its role in shaping Singapore’s trajectory.
Timed entry is in place to manage visitor flow and ensure a comfortable experience for all guests. Admission is free for Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and children under six. As part of National Day celebrations, visitors can enjoy free access on 9 August, though the Magical Companions feature will not be available on Open House days.
