
ASEAN Secretariat hosts High-Level Talk under the 4th ASEAN Junior Fellowship Programme, featuring insights from H.E. Dr. Mari Elka Pangestu on the region’s economic future
The 4th ASEAN Junior Fellowship Programme (AJFP) continued with a High-Level Talk held at the ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta on 22 August 2025. The event was formally opened by H.E. Satvinder Singh, Deputy Secretary-General for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
As part of the session, H.E. Dr. Mari Elka Pangestu, former Minister of Trade and Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia, and currently the President’s Special Advisor for International Trade and Multilateral Cooperation, delivered a keynote briefing. Her presentation, titled “ASEAN’s Next Phase: Towards a Dynamic Integrated Economy”, addressed key opportunities and challenges in advancing economic integration within the region.


The High-Level Talk gathered Junior Fellows from ASEAN Member States and Timor-Leste, providing them with valuable perspectives on the trajectory of ASEAN’s economic development. Participants engaged with Dr. Pangestu on topics including trade, innovation, and the role of multilateral cooperation in shaping ASEAN’s collective progress.
The 4th AJFP, implemented from 3 to 30 August 2025, is designed to deepen understanding of ASEAN’s work and foster the next generation of leaders across the region. Through lectures, policy discussions, and practical engagements, the programme continues to strengthen the knowledge and capacities of young professionals in Southeast Asia.
