Prime Minister Lawrence Wong opens flagship exhibition capturing Singapore’s past, present and future as part of 60th anniversary commemorations.
Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong officially launched the Heart&Soul Experience, the flagship exhibition for Singapore’s 60th anniversary (SG60). The exhibition, which runs until the end of the year, aims to reflect on the nation’s journey over the past six decades while also offering a platform for Singaporeans to share their aspirations for the future.
Speaking at the launch event, Mr Wong emphasised that SG60 is not just a celebration, but also a time for reflection. “Sixty years is not long for most countries. But for Singapore, it is a very significant milestone because of our difficult beginnings, and all that we have been through together these last 60 years,” he said.
The Heart&Soul Experience chronicles key chapters of Singapore’s history, from the Japanese Occupation and the post-war years to independence, economic challenges, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Curated by a creative team led by Gene, Beatrice and Michael, the exhibition draws on their previous experience with national showcases such as SG50 and the Bicentennial.
Mr Wong noted that the exhibition is designed not only to honour the past but also to look forward. Visitors are invited to contribute their hopes and dreams for Singapore, which will be displayed in an interactive installation. “We hope this constellation of dreams will inspire all of us to work together as one team, to turn our collective dreams into reality,” he added.
Encouraging families and individuals to attend, Mr Wong expressed confidence that the exhibition would help foster renewed optimism. “Beyond SG60, we can look forward to a better Singapore… and this shining little red dot continuing to shine brightly, for many more generations to come,” he concluded.
