Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong met senior Chinese leaders in Beijing on 4 September to review bilateral cooperation and future areas of collaboration.
BEIJING, 4 September 2025 – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong met senior Chinese leaders in Beijing during his working visit to China. His separate engagements with Vice President Han Zheng, Vice Premier He Lifeng, and Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao highlighted the breadth of the Singapore–China partnership as both countries mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations.


Deputy Prime Minister Gan was hosted to lunch by Vice President Han Zheng at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, where both leaders reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between Singapore and China. They noted the positive momentum in bilateral cooperation across trade and investment, digital and financial connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges. They also expressed their anticipation of the 21st Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) to be held in Chongqing later this year.

In his meeting with Vice Premier He Lifeng, Deputy Prime Minister Gan reviewed the strong foundation of bilateral economic cooperation. Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening trade and investment ties through flagship projects such as the China–Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park, the Sino–Singapore Tianjin Eco-City, the China–Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity, the China–Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City, and the Singapore–China (Shenzhen) Smart City Initiative. They also discussed ongoing progress in financial initiatives, including over-the-counter (OTC) bond market arrangements, green finance, and broader capital market collaboration.

Deputy Prime Minister Gan’s meeting with Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao included an exchange of views on global economic trends and challenges. Both leaders reaffirmed Singapore and China’s shared commitment to upholding the rules-based international order and a multilateral trading system. Deputy Prime Minister Gan also conveyed Singapore’s support for China’s upcoming APEC Chairmanship in 2026. They looked forward to the convening of the 8th Investment Promotion Committee later in 2025 as a platform to further advance bilateral economic ties.
