External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar participated in the High-Level Meeting of Like-Minded Global South Countries held on the margins of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on 29 September 2025. The meeting brought together representatives from across the developing world to strengthen solidarity and chart pathways for deeper cooperation.

Dr Jaishankar put forward proposals for the Global South to play a more active role in world affairs. He underscored the importance of using existing forums to expand consultations, sharing national strengths and achievements in areas such as vaccines, digital innovation, education, agriculture, and SME development.

The Minister also emphasised the need for climate action and climate justice initiatives designed to serve the Global South, as well as the responsible use of emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, for development.

He further highlighted the urgency of reforming the United Nations and the multilateral system to make them more inclusive and responsive to present-day realities.

On the sidelines of UNGA80, Dr Jaishankar also met Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore. The two ministers held a brief discussion, reaffirming the close partnership between India and Singapore and exchanging views on regional and global issues.
