The High Commission of India in Singapore hosted a vibrant Deepawali celebration for migrant workers at the Sembawang Recreation Centre on Sunday, 5 October 2025, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event brought together over 1,500 Indian migrant workers for an evening filled with joy, culture, and appreciation, reflecting the spirit of togetherness that marks the Festival of Lights.

The celebration began with a warm interaction between the migrant workers and officials from the High Commission of India in Singapore. The gathering offered an opportunity for the community to share their experiences and feel recognised for their contributions to Singapore’s workforce and society.
A highlight of the evening was a lively fashion show that showcased traditional Indian attire, celebrating the diversity and cultural pride of the Indian community abroad. This was followed by energetic dance performances that added colour and rhythm to the festive atmosphere.

The entertainment segment also included soulful musical performances, with songs presented as a tribute to the late playback legend S. P. Balasubrahmanyam (SPB), evoking nostalgia and joy among the audience.
A special moment during the evening was the felicitation of social service champions and organisations who have been actively involved in supporting and uplifting migrant workers in Singapore. Their selfless service and dedication were honoured as part of the festivities, underlining the importance of compassion and community support.
The Deepawali celebrations at Sembawang Recreation Centre concluded with shared smiles, laughter, and a renewed sense of belonging among the migrant workers — a testament to the High Commission’s continued commitment to engaging with and supporting the Indian diaspora in Singapore.
