Singapore hosted Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, Ms Anna Thandi Moraka, for the Mental Health and Wellness Seminar held on 10 October 2025. The event was organised in collaboration with the Character and Leadership Academy and formed part of the global commemoration of World Mental Health Day.

In her keynote remarks, Deputy Minister Moraka underscored the urgent need to elevate mental health as a global development, human rights, and diplomatic priority. She noted that mental health challenges increasingly transcended national boundaries and required coordinated responses from governments, civil society, and international partners.

She also highlighted the disproportionate impact of mental health issues on children and youth, stressing the importance of early intervention, preventive strategies, and cross-border cooperation to support the younger generation. Her remarks aligned with Singapore’s ongoing efforts to promote resilience, well-being, and community support among youth.

The seminar brought together local organisations, mental health advocates, and international participants for discussions on strengthening awareness, addressing stigma, and developing practical approaches to mental wellness. The exchange of perspectives enabled both countries to deepen their understanding of shared challenges and emerging trends in mental health.

Singapore’s participation in the event reflected its commitment to supporting collaborative initiatives that advance mental health advocacy and strengthen people-centred cooperation with global partners, including South Africa.
